Reborn: My Two Systems at War

Chapter 12: The Firefighter

Chapter 12: The Firefighter

A shockwave exploded with a loud bang, sending visible waves through the thick rain. Like a human cannonball, the mountain of muscles shot toward the slender girl standing further away.

As he propelled himself forward like a human bullet, an inferno of flames erupted from the man's exposed, bulging muscles, hissing as the raindrops evaporated upon contact with the blazing inferno.

'So, he is a super' Supers were one of the three types of humans with special abilities. Their bodies were mutated, giving them one or multiple special powers.

Tia had no more time to analyze the situation; her mind already acting to protect her.

Her eyes blazed with energy as she harnessed her own telekinetic abilities, grabbing hold of her own form and allowing her to move with incredible agility. As if she were a puppet controlled by strings, she slid to the side with an unnaturally abrupt push.

Just a fraction of a second later, the colossal muscleman thundered past her, leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. The road cracked and melted under the intense heat of his passing, the force of his movement causing a powerful draft that fluttered her clothes and washed over her face with hot air.

Meanwhile, the four goons raised their guns and fired, the deafening bangs piercing the once-quiet night. But Tia's mind worked with lightning speed, her transformed brain extending her will beyond her body.

As the four bullets hurtled toward her, they seemed to freeze in mid-air. Tia wasted no time, immediately darting into a nearby side street, seeking refuge behind the corner.

Adrenaline pumped through her veins, but she kept her cool, 'Fire... maybe even a super strength. They should have told me that I am not facing some random thug!'

"Ha-ha, so you are a psychic. Let me bend you over my knees and show you my firepower. I am the firefighter!" The super's delirious voice was getting closer, his heavy steps approaching the street where she waited.

'Come in and die.'

Her long hair flowed freely in the cold breeze as her hood fell off, framing her determined expression. Leaning against the cold concrete wall, she closed her eyes and focused her mind, channeling her inner strength in anticipation of the incoming foe.

"You can't hide!" The menacing voice echoed through the side street as a wide stream of scorching Fire erupted toward her. The brilliant orange light flooded her vision, but she remained calm. Her eyes snapped open, ablaze with her internal energy.

Bracing herself with outstretched hands, an invisible force emanated from her fingertips, expanding outward like an impenetrable barrier. All new 𝒄hapters 𝒐n nov𝒆lbin(.)com

The incoming flames collided with this unseen shield, and the Fire seemed to halt as if it had encountered an invisible wall. The residual heat washed over her face, intense and blistering, causing her to flinch and instinctively take a step back.

Tia pushed with her mind, sparks of Fire flying in all directions and clouds of steam filling the air as the Fire and the raw kinetic force clashed against each other in waves.

The walls, the road, and everything else turned red from the heat, the concrete cracking under the reverberating shockwaves.

With sweat and rain drenching her youthful face, Tia stood firmly, pushing with all power she could gather against the relentless influx of Fire, 'He can't keep this for long, and I should outlast him as telekinesis costs almost nothing to use.'

The Fire was blazing brighter and brighter, slowly inching closer to her face. She didn't know how much time had passed, every second feeling like an hour as her hands trembled and the weakness from the heat tired her.

The percents slowly rolled before her own eyes. However, she was too occupied to enjoy it.

'Should I retreat?' Just as she thought about it, the flames sizzled out, leaving behind only the blazing hot concrete and a thick haze of steam.

Just as she was about to exhale, a colossal fist enveloped in flames emerged from the steam, hurtling straight toward her face.

Time seemed to slow, and her eyes widened, irises pulsating with energy. Swiftly, she waved her hand, unleashing a surge of power that collided with the giant man, halting his fist just inches from her face, the scorching flames nearly grazing her skin.

With a sudden force, he was sent hurtling backward out of the sidestreet and across the wide main street, akin to a brittle, ancient twig. His energy was gone, and his previously inhuman strength diminished, no longer able to resist her power.

"Ahhh!" He collided against the wall with a thunderous impact, causing deep cracks to spiderweb across the concrete. Blood trickled from his mouth, contorted into a wicked grin as he chuckled like a madman.

"Hahaha!"

As the hurried footsteps of his goons closed in on her, she paid them no mind. Instead, her eyes flickered with rage, the searing pain on her face feeling as if she had thrust her head into a blazing furnace.

'Damn you! I bet I am red!' She was a girl, and her face was important to her. She simply couldn't forgive someone for getting even close to scarring her!

With a blaze of fury sweeping through her entire being, she confidently strode into the main street, heading directly toward the hulking musclehead.

Gunshots erupted once more, but as if guided by an unseen force, all the bullets were halted before they could reach her, caught in a telekinetic web of her mind akin to flies caught by a spider.

With a resonating "ding," the bullets clattered harmlessly to the ground.

"Run while you still can! Once I finish your boss, it will be your turn!"

The percents kept jumping up, but she no longer registered them, her mind fully focused on her pain and rage.

Tia extended her small, white palm towards the musclehead, her intense focus channeling an invisible force that enveloped his entire body.

"Let me down, you bitch!"

He groaned and strained against the powerful restraint, but he remained immobilized, his body firmly pinned against the concrete wall.

Gunshots echoed once more through the street, accompanied by muzzle flashes, but she paid them no heed as her mind seemed to operate on its own, swiftly catching each bullet as if she were a child on a playground instinctively dodging a ball.

The surge of energy intensified, coursing through her hand like a torrent. Her hair danced and fluttered as if gravity had been reversed while her heart raced with the exhilaration of the moment.

"Where is your laughter now?! Ha? You are no longer so brave!" Her glowing eyes were fixed upon the man who was pailing while making choking sounds as he gasped for air.

His eyes were filled with desperation, which made her even happier, her lips curving into an insane smile, the thrill of the life and death battle and pain erasing all her rationality.

She has reawakened her old love for the thrill that gave her the terrifying reputation in her past life and the nickname of Berserk Witch or Mad Witch. Once she entered her frenzy, she wouldn't stop.
