Reborn: My Two Systems at War

Chapter 6: Freedom!

Chapter 6: Freedom!

POV Commandos:

Six men in black slowly advanced through the long, empty hallway. Everything was dark except for the red emergency lights, but they could see as if it was a bright sunny day through their green-glowing visors.

All six of them were fully decked in dark-steel tactical armorthe hydraulics empowering them, making silent hissing sounds with each of their steps.

Sigils of the planetary guard, looking like a small blue circle with two swords in the background, glinted on their chests. Their fully automatic rifles were raised with thin red rays emitted from the laser sights mounted under their barrels.

All the guns were aimed towards the door that led to the small cleaning supplies cabinet.

"It doesn't look like she will come out..."

They didn't know what had happened. They only knew that a dangerous patient somehow got a gun and murdered some staff members.

'Still, I don't want to hurt her. She is just a sick girl... She probably doesn't even know what she has done. Such a shitty day. Especially with the festival...' Officer Kerry kept his eyes on the door.

Abruptly, a pot was sent hurtling from the room with the patient, crashing dramatically against the hospital wall. The deafening crash of glass reverberated through the halls, causing the guards to tense up in response.

In a matter of seconds, crimson gas billowed forth from the broken vessel, swiftly engulfing the entire corridor and catching the guards off guard. The officer's vision instantly tinted red, and an overwhelming surge of fury surged within his mind. His heart pounded so fiercely it felt like it might break free from his chest.

He stared at his own subordinate, the rage overwhelming his senses.

"You! I hate you!" He aimed at his colleague, his eyes burning red under his visor, glowing veins pulsing and branching all over the exposed skin on his face.

"Die!!!"

The thunderous bangs reverberated relentlessly through the narrow corridors, each discharge accompanied by blinding yellow flashes of light that momentarily disoriented him.

Chaos erupted as the surrounding individuals unleashed a barrage of shots from their firearms, the collective sound of gunfire adding to the mayhem.

Despite the sharp, stabbing pain from multiple directions, he remained resolute, steadfastly pulling the trigger repeatedly until nothing but hollow clicks echoed in the air - his ammunition fully expended.

As the fierce rage within him gradually subsided, a cooling calm settled over his heart, and the once prominent veins on his skin gradually receded, leaving behind a sense of tranquility amidst the aftermath of the intense encounter.

"What happened?!" In confusion and horror, he stared at his bleeding squad mates on the floor, blood pooling on the white tiles. His hands trembled as he stared at his chest, blood flowing from bullet holes in his protective chest plate.

"You should have let me go. I just want to be free!" Suddenly, an immense force crashed into his chest, and his boots separated from the floor. He hurtled backward as if he had been hit by a truck.

Gasping for breath, he struggled to regain control of his senses, the intensity of the pain threatening to overwhelm him.

'So she was a psychic...'

The young girl stared into his eyes with her own. They were deep and disturbing, yet tranquil and mesmerizingly beautiful at the same time. He felt like staring into a black hole, deadly yet beautiful.

He tried to raise his gun, but the force pinned down his arms to the ground.

"Sorry..." Two bullets lifted from the floor, floating and slightly rocking like a ship on the sea. The next moment, they shot for his eyes.

Tia stood in the hallway filled with dead bodies, her hands still trembling at the sight.

She slaughtered them all without any mercy.

'I have!'

She grabbed a gun from a dead commandos, staring at it. The rifle was comically large for her, her two hands trembling as she tried to raise the massive piece of the metal, 'Can I shoot from this thing without using these exoskeletons?'

They were the reason why she refused to face them head-on. Her body was squishy and weak. Just a single bullet from these large caliber automatic rifles would end her life.

Ultimately, she dropped it and instead took the bullets. 'I don't need a gun; I can shoot bullets without them.'

She still heard the sound of rotors, the walls, the floor, and everything slightly vibrating.

'I have to get out, now!' She knew that now that she had killed the commandos, the perimeters would be weakened, but if she lingered for too long, they would encircle the entire facility.

She turned to run, following the green arrows pointing toward the nearest emergency exit. She ran as fast as she couldher breathing becoming more ragged, the cheap working shoes she borrowed from the storage tapping on the white tiles, leaving behind bloody, red footprints.

Her long hair bounced up and down, turning into a mess.

'No one appreciates their shoes enough until they are forced to go without them.'

Right at the end of the hallway was a door. The door with the words that brought her an indescribable feeling of joy, 'Emergency Exit.'

Her power smashed straight into the pair of doors, blowing them off their hinges as the metal bent and creaked, the two large metallic doors crashing into the ground.

She was now sure of it. The force of her telekinesis grew with each percent of the proficiency she had earned.

She busted out through the empty doorframe and the slight cold draft hit her in the face, refreshing her sweaty and tired body.

'I am free!'

She stood in the heart of the bustling street, surrounded by towering concrete and metal structures that seemed to reach endlessly into the sky, casting the entire road in an encompassing shadow. They loomed at least three or four stories high, creating an urban canyon that dwarfed everything beneath its imposing presence.

Opulent displays adorned the corners of each structure, emanating a radiant glow that constantly showcased a mesmerizing array of advertisements and breaking news.

The vibrant visuals and flashing lights merged harmoniously with the bustling sounds of the city, creating an atmosphere that enveloped all who dared to venture into this urban wonderland.

"Freeze right where you are!"

The street was abandoned except for three guards slowly approaching her, each holding a green-glowing handgun. Their plain grey uniforms, with sigils of the planetary guard, rustled as they slowly approached her.

'More?!' Without thinking, Tia's eyes flashed in the red light as the air rippled under the invisible force. She immediately threw herself to the ground.

Just a split second later, painful cries echoed through the street, and all three cops pulled the triggers of their guns.

Three green lights flashed on the street, submerged in the shadows.

"I can't see!"

"My eyes!"

'It so easy to blind a human. Just a little bit of pressure, and pop.'

The girl raised her gun and aimed at the nearest cop. Then she pulled the trigger, the cold touch of metal in her hand reassuring her.

She no longer hesitated as she was only a few steps away from her freedom. She couldn't lose it now after she felt it.

The plasma bolt hit the cop straight into his chest in a short burst of blue plasma and burned a massive hole through him. He fell to the ground, and his body twitched one last time before he stopped moving forever.

The next moment, metal bullets flew at the two remaining blinded cops, tearing through their bodies, blood gushing out of the holes, and staining their uniforms in red.

'I feel nothing...' The more she killed, the less she cared about it, 'They have forced me to do this... It isn't my fault, but theirs.' She desperately clung back to her last piece of consciousness.

As the deafening hum of rotors reverberated through the street, a powerful spotlight bathed the surroundings in a brilliant glow, casting a radiant illumination upon the entire area.

Tia dashed straight as fast as she could, the sound of rotors getting closer and closer. A smile formed on her face. Her freedom was right before her.

As she darted through the alleyways and narrow passages, adrenaline surged through her veins, lending her the speed and agility of a wild creature escaping its captors. The wind whipped through her hair, and her pulse quickened with every step, the promise of liberation spurring her on.

"Stop right now, or we will open the fire!" The bright light blinded her, and the loud rotors deafened her, but right in front of her was a glowing police palisade and a crowd of people behind it.

'They will not shoot at me... the risk of them hitting the crowd is too big.'

She jumped straight over it and slipped into the crowd of uncaring people.
